Dot NAME Domain Names
Started in 2001, the .NAME gTLD is the sole TLD supposed to be for personal web pages only. These domains can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other labels people are known by. At first, solely 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to obtain john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already purchased third-level domains remained active.
