When the Dot NET generic domain was first introduced in 1985, together with the first domain name extensions on the web, it was supposed to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure companies. Taking into account that there were no special terms about the usage of the TLD, though, .NET domains were reserved and used for different purposes and by lots of people. This extension is a wonderful substitute of dot COM, notably if the necessary domain with the latter domain extension is not available for registration.
